The Holter monitor is designed to provide a continuous record of your heart rhythm. It’s very useful for patients who experience arrhythmias on an irregular basis or who suffer from transient heart problems. These types of conditions are potentially very serious, but can be very difficult to detect during a diagnostic cardiac exam.
You will get the most out of your Holter monitor if you adhere to your daily routine while you are wearing it. Exercise when you usually exercise, work when you usually work and sleep when you usually sleep.
Once the Holter monitor is removed, your cardiologist and other doctors will analyze the information it provides and decide what treatment interventions, if any, are necessary. After reviewing the Holter monitor data, it is not uncommon for doctors to decide that no treatment is necessary at this time. When this is the case, you may be asked to use the Holter monitor again in another few months.
